July 4th in Cayucos, Ca
I’m back! After being away for a week, I felt like I was having blogging withdrawals! Don’t get me wrong, our vacation at the beach was wonderful and full of some much needed family time. So I won’t complain one bit… BUT it does feel great to be home typing away again..
We always head to the beach during the summer, but this year was a little different. We got to head to Cayucos, Ca during the fourth of July holiday! Which we’ve never done before. And my goodness will I say it was an amazing experience! I had no clue Cayucos had so much to offer on this holiday..
I knew I needed to write a post about our July 4th trip to share our experiences with you guys. This is honestly how I want to spend every 4th of July from now on.. Because everything else truly fails in comparison.
To start off the morning on the fourth, Cayucos features a pretty darn amazing Sand Sculpture Contest. They have a kids competition area as well as an adult age area for competition. The winners are awarded ribbons as well. Here are some of the really cool ones we saw!
Sand Sculpture Contest
July 4th, 2017 Cayucos, Ca
This of course made me chuckle.. “Pig butts” hehe
This Medusa did it’s job. It was freaking out my kids, lol.
I saved the best for last. This was by far the show stealer this year. This thing was HUGE. And the arial view was even more impressive! It was constructed beside the Cayucos Pier so you could walk out onto the pier and see the above view. It was amazing. I was truly blown away. This must have taken the creators hours!!!
Independence Day Parade
After viewing the sand sculptures, we found a nice little spot on Ocean Ave to sit and wait for the 4th of July Parade. Who knew Cayucos, Ca had a parade on this holiday?! I had no clue.. But it was full of family fun.
The street was filled with patriotic balloons that my youngest was going crazy for. He loves balloons. What kid doesn’t? There was also plenty of music, dancing, and fantastic old cars.
My son was like, “mom, take a pic of me already!”
There were quite a few Veterans who went through the parade as well. It was great to see so many people stand up and support these wonderful individuals.
4th of July Fair
After the parade ended, we decided to head to the fair that was directly behind the parade. They had many unique booths filled with handmade treasures and lots of fair food! My son picked up a rainbow fidget spinner, my daughter found a handmade crochet elephant, and my youngest found a handmade wooden truck (he is obsessed with cars and trucks so this was perfect for him!) We also decided to get some BBQ, followed by dessert!
I got some strawberry shortcake and the hubby got some Aebleskivers, straight from Solvang, Ca.. They were both very yummy..
After walking the fair and eating some food, we decided to go chill for a bit in our condo until fireworks later on in the evening. Keep in mind that if you come on this day, there will be A LOT of people. I’ve never seen Cayucos this busy. It’s a small town which I adore, mainly because it is not flooded with people. And this seemed to be the only busy day out of the entire week we were there, thank goodness! But now that I’ve seen what the 4th is all about here, I can see why people come pouring in. It is quite the experience!
4th of July Fireworks Spectacular
For the fireworks show, we brought a couple of chairs to the beach and just waited for the sun to go down. How beautiful is the beach at sunset! There was even a guy there doing some flame throwing to keep everyone entertained! The surfers had the best view… If you look closely, you can see them all just waiting in the ocean for the show to start..
This was by far the best fireworks show I’ve ever seen. And I am not just saying that. You are so stinking close to the fireworks, it is just breathtaking! At other places, you are always very far from the show and are always very crowded and people are shoving and trying to get the best view. We had plenty of room and were not crowded by anyone! It was magical..
We had an unforgettable day in Cayucos, Ca! If you are thinking of heading to the beach next year, I would recommend this small town that has a big entertainment value!
What did you do for the 4th this year?? Comment below and pls feel free to share so the word gets out about this wonderful place..
