How to Protect Your Baby’s Skin This Summer

It is really starting to heat up outside. The warmer weather is here! But that doesn’t mean we need to stay cooped up inside all summer. I for one love getting outside and being active, I always have. And I want to pass that onto my kids as well. But knowing how harmful the sun can be to my baby’s skin is a concern. As it should be.

Thankfully there are steps we can take that will help keep our babies stay safe in the sun. I want to be able to get outside, have fun with my kids, and not have to worry about those harmful rays, don’t you?!

So to get into the summer vibe, we went on a little hike today! We live in a great town and are in a great location where there is lots to do outdoors. Here’s what I did to protect my little guy while we were out..

Wear a Hat

One of the easiest ways to protect your baby’s skin this summer is to simply have him/her wear a hat! I’m lucky, my little guy loves hats. Sometimes kids aren’t always that easy. In that case, try a Bucket Sun Protection Hat that has a tie just to make sure it stays on. Hats are usually necessary for me. I have very light skin and the top of my head burns every single time I’m outside for a long period. And it hurts!

He likes to wear it backwards, cause he’s cool like that.

Apply Sunscreen

This might be pretty obvious, but it is THAT important and is a necessary mention. I picked up some of my favorite sunscreen, Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen from Walmart before we headed out on our hike. It was very easy to find because it was on a seasonal sunscreen display in the main aisle toward the front of the store. Your local Walmart should have the same display!

There are a lot of reasons Blue Lizard® is my favorite sunscreen. Blue Lizard® products have a unique zinc oxide formulation and provide broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection (SPF30+). Pretty cool right? I think so too 😉 They are also Dermatologist recommended for over 15 years! Blue Lizard® is a brand trusted by Pediatricians, Dermatologists, and especially moms, like me!

Another cool thing I have to point out about Blue Lizard® is the Patented Smart Bottle™ technology. The bottle actually changes color when it is exposed to harmful UV sunlight. And yes, it actually does work! Our bottle was pink when I left it in the sunlight and I knew I needed to get some sunscreen on my baby boy. This can be a great teaching tool for your kids on when to re-apply sunscreen!

What puts this brand over the top for me is knowing that the Baby and Sensitive varieties are paraben-free, chemical-free and fragrance-free. YES! Hallelujah. Blue Lizard® provides all the coverage I need to keep my family safe from the sun.

*Parents, please don’t forget that you should consult your pediatrician before using any sunscreen on a child younger than 6 months old. For children older than 6 months, Blue Lizard® Baby or Sensitive products are great to minimize risk of skin sensitivity!

On a side note guys, if you join iBotta you can earn $4.00 when you purchase Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen Baby, 5 oz. bottle only. Cha-ching!

How To Protect Your Baby's Skin This Summer

Yes, this area looks very dry and hot, but it is actually quite a beautiful site to just see big open land like this. Getting exercise outdoors is one of my favorite things to do. It’s a lot more fun than the gym! 😉

He was really enjoying just being able to roam around and get some exercise along these hiking trails.

Find Some Shade

Give your baby’s skin a break from the harsh rays and find some shade! Being in the sun for a long period is not good for you or your baby’s skin.

Take Early Hikes or Walks

Going out earlier in the day, say before 10 AM, can help protect your skin. We went out early this morning after dropping big brother and big sister off at school. It is much cooler and much more enjoyable!

There you have it guys, easy simple ways to help keep your baby’s skin protected this summer.

Don’t forget to slow down and enjoy the scenery as well! There is so much beauty around us, but we have to look up from our phones and actually pay attention if we want to see it!

Have you tried Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen before? Comment below! If you haven’t, RUN to your local Walmart and pick some up so you are ready for some summertime fun with your kiddos!

  2. First, your baby is just so cute. What a personality he has! Second, I agree on the importance of applying sunscreen when we go out. Avoid going out between the hours of 10:am to 3 pm when the sun’s rays are the strongest.

    1. Oh my gosh, I know! Reapplying sunscreen every 30 minutes is now recommended. But I love being outside, not going to let the heat keep us in! Lol

  4. I hadn’t heard of Blue Lizard but will try it! I’m especially tweaked that it changes colors when exposed to UV rays.
