How to Have an Awesome Summer Day

Since we live in Central California, we have the privilege of being pretty close to everything awesome California has to offer. We are only a short 45 minutes from Shaver Lake, one of our favorite summer spots. We spontaneously decided to head to the lake this weekend for one of our memorable summer days!

Before heading out to the lake, we stopped by CVS to pick up our go-to refreshment of choice, ice cold Coca-Cola™! CVS is the perfect place to quickly pick up some Coca-Cola for you and your family or friends to share. Plus, right now CVS is offering special pricing on Coca-Cola, 2 for $3 with your CVS ExtraCare Card!

Did I mention Coca-Cola is now back with 1,000 new Share A Coke names featuring First and Last names this year?! It’s pretty  fun searching through all the bottles looking for names I knew. I actually found one that was the closest I think I’ll get to my actual name. I found “Colleen” which is pretty rare just like my name, so I was excited when I found this one! Of course my name is Jolleen, so I just pretend the “C” is a “J” 🙂 I honestly love the Share A Coke names. Great for personalizing gifts too!

So after our quick stop, we headed up. Thank goodness the lake is 20 degrees cooler than where we live. Whew, it’s was a high of 96 degrees in our town. The lake, a cool 73 degrees. Oh yes… Pure bliss! Nothing but sunshine and a cool breeze..

You can still see some snow capped mountains up there in the distance. It was just beautiful! The water was pretty darn cold but it felt oh so good on our toezies!

The hubby loves fishing so we made a day out of it. It might be somewhat hard to fish with little kids, but he managed to make it happen! He’s just THAT good 😉

This is my husband’s happy place right here. If he has a fishing pole and a Ice Cold Coca-Cola in his hands, he is happy. I love the guy.

I am mainly there to supervise, take pictures, and make sure my kids don’t get wrapped up in fishing line! But I had fun watching my kids throw their lines into the water. It was so relaxing and quiet when we got there. It did get packed a few hours into it, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the lake and our yummy refreshments!

And you guys know how kids are, even if the water is FREEZING, if they are near it, they will jump in and not have a care in the world. I love that about children. Wish I was like that still. I barely touched the water and was like, NOPE, no way. Way too cold.

I love that my kids are happy just playing in water and dirt. I’m not the only one right? Who cares if I have to bathe them as soon as we get home. I love getting outdoors and having fun with my kids. It’s one of my favorite things to do. And in all honesty, this is where the best memories are made. These are the things they remember through the years. These simple, awesome days filled with laughter and family.

Okay, I have to mention this because it was freaking hilarious. I don’t know what it was or why it was happening BUT, there were massive attacking bumble bees that would NOT go away and leave us alone. Check out these photos. Bee to my left, look at the size of this thing!

Humungous! And in this photo below, right on top of hubby’s head. Bees are apparently very attracted to us! Had to share. They photo bombed quite a few pics.

You know those girls that squeal and scream if they see a spider? Well, unfortunately that is me. And I would not stop getting attacked by these killer bees. My husband was so annoyed. He just kept saying, Why did I bring you outdoors??  Don’t get me wrong, I love being outdoors! But being attacked by bugs for hours? Uhm, no thank you. When you take your family out this summer, don’t forget bug spray!!!

After fishing and my kids getting unbelievably dirty and sandy, I knew it was time for lunch. We brought some food for a nice little picnic before heading home for the day. And drinking those Ice Cold Coca-Cola drinks was exactly what we needed!

That my friends is how you have a perfect summer day. Water, fishing, refreshments, and family time. Perfection.

What is your favorite Ice Cold Coca-Cola refreshment? Mine is definitely Diet Coke®. Who are you going to share an Ice Cold Coke with this summer? Comment below!! And don’t forget to head to your nearest CVS for the super awesome Coca-Cola deal!!
