Goals for the New Year!

Yes, I realize I’m a little late with this post with it being January 10th and all, but I figured better 10 days late than never right?! Hmm maybe obliterating procrastination is something I should be adding to this list.. Aaaanyhoo, I was pondering this morning  what goals I should be working on this year with my marriage, my blog, and with my family.

I quickly realized how short I fall in basically all of those categories. Not trying to be a downer on myself, but honestly, improvement needs to happen. And acknowledging that is a huge step! It’s so easy to fall into the rut of telling yourself that you are average and that’s OK. That bettering yourself doesn’t really need to happen.

You’re average at praying, you do it maybe once a week. You’re average in your marriage, you fight and make up, and on your day goes. You are average in your church, I mean you show up pretty much every Sunday, that’s enough right?

Well, for me, I want to be more than average. I want to be striving and working every single day to be more like Christ, to better myself in every area of my life. I can do all things in, what was it again? Oh that’s right, IN CHRIST. So why not push ourselves this year to be more, to be better, and to let God guide us in every aspect of our lives.

Here’s a short list of some goals I have for myself this year. No, it does not contain the obligatory, get fit and eat healthy stuff…ugh I’m so sick of putting that on my list and never doing it. So I’m going to focus on other areas this time around..

  • Praying consistently every single day.

Sounds easy enough right? No, I mean really praying. Taking time out of my day to get one on one time with God. Working on my relationship with Him is my top priority this year. And prayer is a huge part of that.

  • Reading through the Bible in a year.

This may just sound like I’m trying to just get through it and I’m not really interested in what it has to say, but I can assure you I am serious about this one. This past Sunday my Pastor mentioned how if we read our Bibles, even if we don’t understand it completely, if we would just continue to read it, we will be blessed, we will be closer to Him, we will have real transformation. He used this illustration,

When people say, “I don’t get anything out of the Bible, I don’t understand it.” Well it’s like this, take a strainer for instance that you use in your kitchen, the water just runs right through it right? It doesn’t hold anything. But listen, at the end of the day that strainer is a whole lot cleaner having that water run through it.” Pastor David Rutherford

I LOVED that illustration. It is so spot on! If you keep that Word in your head, if you continue to just read, you will see a change. There’s no way you won’t, because those words of life will be constantly in your mind throughout the day.

I’m going to be working on a printable for you guys that shows just how you can read through you Bible in a year. So stay tuned!

  • Constantly uplift my husband.

I can’t tell you how much time I’ve wasted over the years tearing down my husband. I’m so nit-picky and bossy. Some might even say a bit of a nagger. I’m ashamed to say it but yes, I nag to no end. What a struggle it must be to be married to me. I feel so sorry for him sometimes that he has to put up with me, this control freak who constantly nags.. smh. But we don’t HAVE to be this way right? We control our words, our actions, and we make our own choices throughout the day. I am making a conscience decision to not only uplift my husband on a daily basis but to also take it up a notch and consistently pray for the guy.

Prayer for my husband is something I cannot do without. I have found this to be so incredibly true in recent months. Not only does it get my mind back and centered to where it should be, it gets me closer to God in the process. In a fight with your spouse? Stop and pray for them, see what happens. Your attitude will change almost immediately. I promise you that.

  • Setting up a blogging routine and actually sticking to it!

Listen, I want to get serious with my blog. I am confident God got me started doing this for a reason. I’m not the best writer and I don’t have the most knowledge about a certain subject. I’m just a regular mom who goes through daily struggles and trials. But I want to share my stories with people so that maybe, just maybe it can help someone else through there tough time. THAT is why I got into blogging and that’s what I intend to do going forward.

  • Get more sponsored posts and blog traffic.

Along the same line with the previous bullet. I want to get more sponsored posts because that brings in more income for my family. Which I would love to do! Getting more traffic is very important to me and is something I will really be working hard on this year. But you cannot get traffic without a blogging routine!

So there you have it folks. My goals for 2017! How are you doing with your goals? What are they? SHARE BELOW in the comments!!

I saw a sign or bumper sticker somewhere. It said, ‘go the extra mile, there’s not much traffic.’ I thought that was cute, and relevant to what you’re saying. 🙂

  6. I loved the one about uplifting your husband. I recently read an article about stopping the habit of being an “a-hole wife”. It was humorous but presented some great truths about seeing normally “nag-worthy” behaviors in a positive light and appreciating what you have 🙂

That’s the great thing about blogging. It takes away your time in a good way, time that should have been spent with frustration, anger but it turns it into something productive and enlightening.

This was a great reminder that to our spouse we need to lift them up. We can’t always just be pointing out their flaws.

I am loving all of your resolutions. There is something about making just a small change that can change so much.

  14. I took the plunge to constantly uplift my husband a couple of years ago and it has done nothing but good for our marriage. I learned that talking to my friends or family about our problems only painted a bad picture of him and didn’t solve anything. Now I only speak good about him and take our problems directly to him.

    1. I totally agree. When you start speaking negatively to other people about your spouse it can severely affect your relationship.

  15. Beautiful goals! I might not be religious but I believe that anyone who is should work on it 🙂 And I really love that husband goal, that is so nice of you! 🙂

    1. Thanks! It’s been a long time coming but I am determined to only uplift the guy. He deserves it 😉

I hate to say it, but I tend to be a nagger to my husband as well. It has to be the control freak inside that causes this. I have been actively working on this and making progress, but I still find myself slipping back into the behavior without realizing it. Good luck with your goals and I hope you have a wonderful year.

    1. We all slip up sometimes. The fact that you are working on it and acknowledging it is huge. Keep it up! Have a wonderful year too 🙂

  17. I was very much moved about the Bible. I am always wanting to read the Bible consistently but got no time at all and I really find it hard to understand some of its verses until I was not reading it again. Good thing you shared about that illustration and I am so wrong not thinking about what God can do to make me understand everything of it thoroughly.

    1. I’m so glad you got something out of my post. The illustration just makes sense doesn’t it?! It’s funny I never thought of reading the Bible that was either, that’s why I had to share!

  18. I have not had time to make goals. I have been renovating my master bath this past month
